Only have a few minutes? Check out this week's MOST POPULAR links as chosen by our email subscribers.
In our previous issue, serverless apparently went mainstream, we got even more serverless data options, and AI was likely stealing your code. This week, we are Ampt about the future of cloud development, Cloudflare introduces the “Supercloud”, and EventBridge launches a new scheduler. Plus, we have some amazing content from the serverless community.
Serverless caching can reduce your MongoDB (and other databases' operations!
AWS Data Hero, Rob Koch, shares how he added Momento's serverless cache to MongoDB with 5 lines of code to see a 40% reduction in processing time. Dive into his blog to learn how you can easily reduce cost and latencies so you can refocus precious time on other work! SPONSORED
Today is a big day for me and the Serverless Cloud team. Serverless Cloud has officially spun off as Ampt, a new company that’s building the future of cloud development. I will lead this company as the CEO along with the amazing engineers and product team from Serverless Cloud. Exciting times are ahead, so please sign up for the waitlist if you’re interesting in staying up to date.
Cloudflare had a big week. They announced their plans for the Supercloud, released Queues into open beta, showed you how to easily migrate from S3 with the R2 Super Slurper, and introduced easy Postgres integration on Cloudflare Workers with Neon.tech. Apparently they don’t know it’s pre:Invent season.
In other “edge” news, Macrometa raised some funding and partnered with Akamai on an edge computing solution.
And yes, I think we’ve finally reached pre:Invent. And with it came some awesome announcements. Amazon EventBridge launched a new scheduler that lets you easily schedule tasks in the future, plus EventBridge now supports enhanced filtering capabilities.
AWS Lambda announced the Telemetry API to enrich monitoring and observability capabilities of Lambda Extensions. Yan Cui has a great post on how this helps process Lambda telemetry data in real-time and Oğuzhan Özdemir explains how it provides simpler observability.
Allen Helton helps you understand the Total Cost of Ownership of serverless and container applications. Lots of great information in here.
Anita Andonoska shows you all the different ways to invoke an AWS Lambda Function, Hardik Shah shares some Amazon DynamoDB cost cutting tips, and Mario Bittencourt revisits temporal modeling with EventBridge Scheduler.
Wojciech Matuszewski describes four methods you can use to perform automatic AWS CloudFormation rollbacks when tests fail in your serverless CI pipelines.
Marcin Sodkiewicz shows you how to NOT miss CloudWatch Alarms, Vlad Holubiev teaches you how to scan a 23 GB DynamoDB table in one minute, and Muhammad Abutahir has a great tutorial on how to create custom keys, usage plans, throttling, and more using Serverless Framework.
Since the new EventBridge Scheduler is all the rage, here is a tutorial from Zied Ben Tahar that shows how to build a serverless reminder application, and another one from Swapnil Pawar showing you how to leverage it.
I’m a big fan of companies sharing their serverless success stories and failures. Dheeraj Inampudi explains how his team accidentally burned $40,000 by calling a function recursively, Venkatramana Ameth Achar and Vivek Daramwal share why Signeasy chose AWS Serverless to build their SaaS dashboard, and Vaibhav Sharma walks you through the building blocks of ThingHz IoT serverless architecture.
Eric Elliott asks, “What’s up with serverless?” This is a non-technical article that gives a bit of history on how they built Adobe Creative Cloud’s services and why, if they built it today, it’d be serverless. Lots of opinions in here, but since Eric has a large following, it’s good to know what the masses are being told.
Finally, I shared some thoughts on DHH’s recent “Why we’re leaving the cloud.” My contention is that the cloud isn’t the issue, you’re just using it wrong.
Two great Serverless Office Hours episodes. One on Amazon MSK Serverless and another on the new Amazon EventBridge Scheduler.
Marcia Villalba continues her series on multi-region serverless architectures with this video on read and write data patterns.
Yan Cui hosted Luc van Donkersgoed on the Real-World Serverless podcast to talk about the challenges of building event-driven architectures at PostNL.
And the Serverless Craic took a crack at explaining Engineering Excellence.
There was a whole bunch of AWS pre:Invent announcements this past week. I would say that the Amazon EventBridge Scheduler and the AWS Lambda Telemetry API were the big ones, but here are a few more to take a look at.
FunctionClarity is an infrastructure solution for serverless functions; signing and verification.

There is a very long list of people who are doing #ServerlessGood and contributing to the Serverless community. These people deserve recognition for their efforts. So each week, I will mention someone whose recent contribution really stood out to me. I love meeting new people, so if you know someone who deserves recognition, please nominate them.
This week’s star is Daniele Frasca (@dfrasca80). Daniele is an AWS Community Builder and the Head of Syndication at Seven. One Entertainment Group where he designs serverless content distribution application architecture. He also writes about serverless topics on the AWS Community Builders Dev.to blog. Daniele recently presented at AWS Community Day DAC, and will be a speaker at this month’s Serverless Summit. Thank you, Daniele, for being part of this community!
