Only have a few minutes? Check out this week's MOST POPULAR links as chosen by our email subscribers.

Apache Iceberg, right ahead! 🧊

In our previous issue, EventBridge launched a killer new feature, S3 Metadata went GA, and another AI video option was added to Bedrock. This week, DeepSeek makes its way to AWS and Microsoft, BigQuery gets its own metastore, and Ampt adds support for Node.js 22. Plus, we have plenty of awesome content from the community!

Serverless News & Announcements 📣

AWS launched a few goodies this week, including Amazon EventBridge's enhanced event source discovery in the console, Amplify now supports using the TypeScript Data client in server-side AWS Lambda functions, and Amazon Q Developer agent can now run builds and tests to validate generated code in real time.

AWS also announced that DeepSeek-R1 models are now available on AWS. Werner even posted about it on X. And, obviously, Microsoft didn't want to be left behind, so they announced that DeepSeek-R1 is now available on Azure AI Foundry and GitHub.

Speaking of not being left behind, Google introduced BigQuery metastore, a unified metadata service with Apache Iceberg support to compete with S3 Metadata.

There was also some progress on Ampt. We introduced support for Node.js 22, so now you can take advantage of all the performance improvements and new features.

Finally, Adrian Hornsby posted that he was leaving AWS after nine years! I know that people don't stay with companies forever, but Adrian was an institution at AWS. Wishing him well on his new journey.

Serverless Tutorials 👷‍♀️

Lots of really interesting tutorials this week, including several new voices:

I'm not sure this article answers its own question, but there is an interesting perspective in here if you can read between the lines.

Cheating Lambda scalability
Daniele Frasca is asking the same questions that most longtime serverless practitioners are. There aren't always easy answers, and sometimes the tradeoffs are necessary.

AI is Creating a Generation of Illiterate Programmers
100% this. I love using AI coding assistants, but I'm nowhere near ready to put my blind trust in them. Even ThePrimeagen agrees.

Panel: Where Is SW Development Going? • Fowler, Cummins, Gee, Terhorst-North & Farley • GOTO 2024
Great discussion about the future of software development and how LLMs and AI will impact it. As a developer (and a human one at that), it was comforting to listen to—until you realize that it's quite possible all these smart people could be wrong. 🤖
