Only have a few minutes? Check out this week's MOST POPULAR links as chosen by our email subscribers.
In our previous issue, Claude 4 came to Bedrock, Cost Anomalies came to you, and AWS figured out how to better communicate product lifecycle updates. This week, Amazon Aurora DSQL goes GA, AWS Serverless gets a powerful MCP server, and Snowflake gets into the Postgres game. Plus, we have lots of awesome serverless and cloud content from the community!
Hi all! I'm at FinOps X in San Diego this week, so let's get straight to it.
The big news is that Amazon Aurora DSQL is now generally available! Is this service perfect? Not yet. Does it potentially become the new standard for serverless applications over DynamoDB? Most likely! And the fact that AWS Backup now supports Amazon Aurora DSQL, it's hard to see devs not reaching for this tool first.
AWS also announced new Model Context Protocol (MCP) Servers for AWS Serverless and Containers, which is pretty cool. This deep dive on the AWS Serverless MCP Server shows just how helpful these tools can be. Plus, the AWS CDK Toolkit Library is now generally available. If you're integrating CDK processes into your deployment pipelines, this will make things a lot easier.
Since I'm at FinOps X, I should also mention that the AWS Pricing Calculator now supports discounts and purchase commitments and AWS Cost Explorer now offers a new Cost Comparison feature. Monitoring and controlling costs continues to become a developer responsibility. Make sure you learn and use these tools.
And finally, Snowflake agreed to buy Crunchy Data to add enterprise-ready Postgres to their offering.
